The National Gallery of Ireland
Located on Merrion Square West and opened in 1864, boasts over 2000 pieces of works including both Irish Landscape arts and portraits as well as many major European works of art. Pieces including early Renaissance paintings right through to the twentieth century. Works from significant key Irish artists including John Lavery, Jack B. Yeats, William Orpen and Hugh Douglas Hamiliton. The gallery is only a 10 minute walk from Kilronan House through Dublin's Georgian Quarter.
Museum of Modern Art
This museum, which is situated within the grounds of the Royal Kilmainham Hospital is a ‘must’ for anybody who is interested in modern and contemporary Irish art. The museum is a little of the beaten track but it is easily accessible by the 123 Bus from Dame Street or you can catch the Luas from O’Connell Street to Heuston Station.
Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery
The Hugh Lane Gallery which is also located on Parnell Square was founded in 1908. The gallery houses one of Ireland's foremost collections of modern and contemporary art. There are over 2000 artworks ranging from Impressionist masterpieces from Monet, Renoir and Manet. The museum is also home to the entire contents of Francis Beacons Studio. The museum is a good half hour walk from Kilronan House or you can take Bus No’s. 14 or 16 to O’Connell Street and the gallery is a 5 minute walk from there.
Merrion Square
However, if you would prefer to just leisurely admire the art work of local artists and painters then stroll around Merrion Square on a Saturday and Sunday morning. Enjoy beautiful displays of local artwork that are for sale and meet the artists themselves. This is a lovely way to spend a morning in Dublin's Georgian Quarter. You could also pop in to ‘Oscar’ a visit on your walk. You will find the statue of Oscar Wilde on the north side of Merrion Square.
